What can you do with time? Nothing...

Have you ever met that person who thought their one thousand dollar shoes were the most valuable thing in the world, or that person who thought their grades were the most important thing in the world? Ok. I can see where the grades were coming from, but the shoes? That is complete nonsense. Time, by far, is the most valuable thing in the world, and no one can argue that this isn’t true. What can you do with a pair of shoes that you spent your whole life savings on without time? You need time, first of all, to have been able to save up the money to get that pair of shoes and to enjoy your time with them. As for grades, they can’t do anything unless you have time past high school to show your grades to college and job applications.

In “The Diamond as Big as the Ritz,” Barrack Washington’s time was “consumed…completely” and all his wealth just disappeared. This shows that no matter how much wealth, power, etc. you have, you won’t be able to have it unless you have the most important thing in the world: time.

I’ve already established how time is the most important thing in the world; however, it is also the most unique thing in the world. If you think about it, in the present whenever you’re doing something tedious or not enjoyable, time passes at such a slow pace. However, if you’re doing something you enjoy like video games, time passes at the speed of lightning. On top of that, the past seems like it passed so fast. In my case, the past 16 years of my life felt like it happened in a week. On the other hand, the future seems so far away. For instance, if you have a week in school with a test or two in every single one of your classes, you perceive that week to pass by extremely slowly. When it’s passed though, it would feel like an instance.
