Have you ever realized when you just wake up and there’s nothing to do that day, your body will tell you, no matter what it takes, that more sleep is more important than anything else? In Maus, Spiegelman expresses a similar idea when Art calls his dad a “murderer” twice. It shows that when you’re angry, you would say some things that you would normally not say, which relates to your body forcing you to sleep more, when in reality, there’s more important things to do. Our body and brain really just have minds of their own. I never really understood why our bodies do this. It’s true that it’s probably because we need more sleep, but can’t our brain understand that we only live a certain amount of time, and we shouldn’t waste anymore on sleep? It’s particularly annoying that we have to suffer through this every single day to try and get up for school.
